
Emer McDonough
Flute
Emer is principal flute of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia and is the flute player of Haffner Wind Ensemble. She was formerly principal flute of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Emer also enjoys freelancing with many other orchestras and performing as a chamber musician and soloist.
Teaching is hugely important to Emer. She has given many master classes and is Professor of Flute at the Royal College of Music.
Emer is Dublin born and was educated through the Irish language. She studied and the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music. She also plays piano badly and recorder remarkably well considering little or no practice.
Emer’s hobbies include painting and keeping fit. Running when on tour with the orchestra is one of her favourite pastimes.
