Paul Boyes

Bassoon

Aged 21, Paul was appointed Principal Bassoon of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and after a very happy ten years in Glasgow, decided to move to London to follow a freelance career. Since then, he has worked as guest Principal with every London orchestra and every major full-time orchestra in the country bar one, come on Welsh National Opera, let me get the full set!

He enjoys close relationships with the LPO, Philharmonia, RPO, English Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Academy of St Martin in the Fields, recording and giving concerts with them in some of the world’s most iconic locations including Sydney Opera House, La Scala Milan, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Beijing’s Great Hall of the People and Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

A keen teacher, Paul is on the bassoon staff of Trinity Laban and has given classes at most of the other UK colleges as well as in Europe and Australia.

He has a greatly varied career, on the commercial side, he recently playing on movie sountracks such as Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Kung Fu Panda 4 and Wicked. One huge highlight recently was getting to spend a day in Studio 2, Abbey Road recording tunes with Sir Paul McCartney.....Studio 2 being where some of the Beatles’ most iconic hits, such as Yesterday and A Hard Day’s Night were recorded.
